loved the stars too fondly

Would you care to describe the most aggravating situation that you've been through on Deviant Art?

*idolhands:iconidolhands: Mar 21, 2008, 6:23:38 AM
One of mine is being banned by a certain big name artist. This happened after their snarky friend got owned simply because they tried to school someone on the color teal. They were in fact wrong on the description of the color despite telling the other person they were the idiot for using it wrong. I obtained the dictionary definition and informed them it was rude to go around insulting all the people who commented anyway. This displeased the big name (on Deviant) artist since rude or not, this was their friend and it seemed they thought it was also OK to curse at their own fans. To this day, over that nonsense, I am still banned from their page over a year later.

I wonder what I should say if I ever meet them in person? Hm.

However, I'm glad to say that I know MANY big name artists who are not like this and whom I consider my role models rather than that variety. I usually stop watching artists, no matter how talented they are, if they are bitchy to their own fans/watchers without due cause; for no reason or because of constructive criticism. It bugs me. Maybe it's a blowfish sort of mechanism, like they think they're scaring away critiques or keeping people controlled through fear. Then again, maybe they really are just jerks.

i definitely welcome constructive criticism both for myself and when commenting on other art. its a very good way to grow and improve considering many a times when i thought i did the best and someone says 'what about this' or 'this is wrong/can be fixed/neck's too long' lol

somehow.....an argument over the color teal sounds rather hilarious....

an aggravating situation recently was discovering a new deviant who have been uploading official game/anime art and when confronted still covered it up and replied rather rudely.
it particularly irks me because it just feeds into the idea that anime isn't art or that a majority of deviants get ';popular' because it's anime, when really there is alot of genuinely excellent anime artists out there who tries hard to come up with good pieces.
and the fact that being rude is just not nice.

That's a very good point about anime, I agree.

Art thieves are generally not nice people, hence the thieving. It was commendable of you to try, but it's usually best to simply report it to DA with a screen shot as proof.

some new deviants may not know the rules so yeah, reported to da anyway, hopefully they'll take notice

Yes, exactly. Conversely I've been discussing this with experts and keen observers of art theft on DA and they have stated that too many younger people misuse the site like a type of Photobucket. The site and its purpose is well explained in the FAQ and other places. It's rather sad that younger people can't be troubled to read although they've clearly figured out how to use technology. ^^;
