Astrophysics is the study of the cosmos. Quantum mechanics is the study of of the infinitely small particles that make up matter. Now theoretically, tiny atoms (and parts of atoms) which make up us and things as huge as galaxies should behave exactly the same on a microscopic or macroscopic (big particles) scale. Guess wut? They don't! Not so far as we've seen.

I will leave out a lot of my ponderings and further explanations. Skip to the fact that one of the new theories to try to explain where all the matter in the universe is, needed for the "big bang" to happen as well as trying to explain why matter isn't behaving as we think it should (insert bemused look on my face) --- we get new ideas about stuff being called "dark matter" and "dark energy".

Uh...if this made-up, highly convenient stuff is correct, I'll admit I'm wrong. However, for my money, I don't like it. I'm more interested in black holes and cosmic string theory.

And nevermind what I've learned about all the other little research projects that I've amused myself with (on my own time) since childhood.

See, that's a nerd. Lots of folks think liking a fandom makes them nerdy, but quite frankly, that stuff has gone uber main-stream and mall bunnies do it. I used to be THE ONLY person I ever knew who read X-men comics, watched Star Trek or listened to David Bowie. Now it's as common as mud.

Btw, I love explaining geeky stuff. Tell me to shut up if you don't want to hear it or I won't.
