Thank you!
Also, I thought of you today in Drawing class. We were listening to Tracy Chapman (who I swear to god I thought she was a man when I heard her voice in "Fast Cars") and thought that her music seemed to be up your alley... You have such a wide and varied taste in music to begin with, but it's got a nice mellow feel that seemed like something you would like. Are you familiar with her?
Tracy Chapman has been one of my favorite entertainers since her onset in the 80's. An intriguing person who is androgynous, so your mistake is understandable and I don't think offensive. There is tremendous soul in the person's being and voice, so sensitive that only her shyness kept her from being even more famous. Fancy that.
Yes, I totally agree. It doesn't surprise me that you know her.
Yeah, sounds like it! Which is surprising because we never listened to music in any of my grade school art classes.
I was totally surprised when she proposed that we do that, but in retrospect, it doesn't surprise me. Mrs. Smith is very much into just going with the flow, being loose, releasing one's spirit into art... So it makes sense she'd let us listen to music to help us do that. Today we listened to some jazz/blues stuff, I am surprised at her very good taste in music.
I did not know others growing up who ever had similar taste in music to my own. When I first discovered Japanese pop, oh my dear, it was SO hard to come by it (and I was VERY odd for liking it), I earned the few cassettes that I had through pen pals and the music was so valuable to me. I would float to listen to it, beam with happiness! Once, it was assumed I'd gotten laid! But my expression and aura of glee was just from the music!
Though it probably isn't particularly good, I still own the tapes. Eventually I was able to buy the rare CD from a convention or a specialty asian shop, but they were pricey and one could never be sure what they were getting.
I don't know how many people ever feel that sort of grateful now, particularly when so many things are so readily available.
I know what you mean. If I didn't have the internet, I'm sure I would be in very much the same place since no one I know even likes TECHNO music, nevermind Swedish techno music. EVERYONE I know listens to heavy metal and rap music. It's so weird! Haha, that's funny about the laid thing. :'D Oh Hands, you make me smile.
The other day I found these Hanukkah tapes from back in 2000... I literally hadn't listened to them since then. Man, I forgot how catchy all the songs were. The tape was called "Hanukkah is TOPS!" by Paul Zimmerman and a bunch of kids. I really liked Light one Candle and some of the Hebrew songs on there. >O>
Yeah, tha tmakes sense. It's a shame, too.
