From my recent birthday, couldn't resist tucking away a couple to bring home. Alas the tasty meat in garlic and olive oil is gone, but the wonderment of its spiral shape (uzumaki) & rippled texture remains. It reminds me of old sweaters and the cloudy skin of Jupiter.

You're absolutely right---small view does no justice (well, it rarely does, but you know). Those are really awesome.

Also, I thought of you today in Drawing class. We were listening to Tracy Chapman (who I swear to god I thought she was a man when I heard her voice in "Fast Cars") and thought that her music seemed to be up your alley... You have such a wide and varied taste in music to begin with, but it's got a nice mellow feel that seemed like something you would like. Are you familiar with her?

Simple yet delightful, something we may commonly look at but rarely see so keenly.

Tracy Chapman has been one of my favorite entertainers since her onset in the 80's. An intriguing person who is androgynous, so your mistake is understandable and I don't think offensive. There is tremendous soul in the person's being and voice, so sensitive that only her shyness kept her from being even more famous. Fancy that.

True, true. I happen to like little creatures like snails, slugs, worms... If my mom and I go out after a rain, we save as many worms as we can that have been washed up onto the driveway...

Yes, I totally agree. It doesn't surprise me that you know her. :) We listen to some really awesome tunes in art, I was surprised!

There you go with that crippling cuteness. *is defenseless*

Yeah, sounds like it! Which is surprising because we never listened to music in any of my grade school art classes.

*cute ray!*

I was totally surprised when she proposed that we do that, but in retrospect, it doesn't surprise me. Mrs. Smith is very much into just going with the flow, being loose, releasing one's spirit into art... So it makes sense she'd let us listen to music to help us do that. Today we listened to some jazz/blues stuff, I am surprised at her very good taste in music. :)

Ach, I love jazz/blues stuff, second fave genre to that electro/remix stuff I often listen too. Hmm...*content sigh*, that's a wonderful influence to have on young minds. Ask her if she as Frank Sinatra or Nat King Cole, I'd recommend them in a heartbeat. Also, Janet Jackson's Design of a Decade is easy to take, but fun album. There are New Age albums that I'd also recommend (and were desperately fond of in my 'tweens).

I did not know others growing up who ever had similar taste in music to my own. When I first discovered Japanese pop, oh my dear, it was SO hard to come by it (and I was VERY odd for liking it), I earned the few cassettes that I had through pen pals and the music was so valuable to me. I would float to listen to it, beam with happiness! Once, it was assumed I'd gotten laid! But my expression and aura of glee was just from the music!

Though it probably isn't particularly good, I still own the tapes. Eventually I was able to buy the rare CD from a convention or a specialty asian shop, but they were pricey and one could never be sure what they were getting.

I don't know how many people ever feel that sort of grateful now, particularly when so many things are so readily available.

For me, jazz/blues stuff is not something I'd often pick up myself but am very open to listening to. I'll be sure to ask them about those guys.

I know what you mean. If I didn't have the internet, I'm sure I would be in very much the same place since no one I know even likes TECHNO music, nevermind Swedish techno music. EVERYONE I know listens to heavy metal and rap music. It's so weird! Haha, that's funny about the laid thing. :'D Oh Hands, you make me smile. :)

The other day I found these Hanukkah tapes from back in 2000... I literally hadn't listened to them since then. Man, I forgot how catchy all the songs were. The tape was called "Hanukkah is TOPS!" by Paul Zimmerman and a bunch of kids. I really liked Light one Candle and some of the Hebrew songs on there. >O>

Yeah, tha tmakes sense. It's a shame, too.
