Consider this a character sheet of a sort. Older art by me, 1993. It was the best of my abilities at the time and I was testing out many things at once including media and graphic design techniques. This is a low resolution copy from the original page of work.
There...is so much I could tell you about this person, but I'd rather do it in the rightful place of the tale. I'm telling you his most common first name since I wrote it all over the place and some basic explanatory data.

Murphy is in his early teens and is homosexual/gay/queer. At the time that I was creating this character, that was still a rather forbidden thing although he hasn't any shame about it (and there are various reasons for that which are rather unusual). He's aware of "gay pride" and therefore has a fondness for rainbows or symbols of that nature.
He's playful, spirited, kind, sensitive and earthy. Due to his style, voice, and personality, one might mistake him for a female but that wouldn't be insulting to him although he is content with his gender. This is not a comment on every homosexual man, it just happens to be who this character is. I had hoped he'd prove likable though. There are other aspects that make Murphy a special person altogether.
The color of Murphy's skin is due to being part Native American/Indian. I'm not certain which tribe, I've asked him and that's a tricky question due to the plot line.
Those animals are small dragons (as we'd probably define them) and are his beloved pets. There is usually at least one with him at all times. Not all of them are pictured here and I do have a full list of their names.
I think you'll be even more surprised by his usual companion when I get a chance for that introduction!
Media: Top left = pencils, bottom left = acrylic & pencil, right = watercolor. Outfit concepts are mine and are a deliberate mix of modern and futuristic concepts.
I believe the "small dragon" beasties are my favorite part! You've packed a ton of detail into them, not to mention into Murphy himself. I really like your use of feathers and beads. It connects me with the idea that he's part Native American/Indian.

Oh, thank you for the feedback and comment. I'm both embarrassed and proud to be revealing these things. I do feel I owe this character some newer art, my basic structure isn't bad but there are many places I'd like to improve.

This picture is fascinating. I can't look away because I am drawn to the bright bold colors and details of this piece. I it! The Dragons are cute as well! <3
I wondered that too and asked him, my response was that the lighter green one (which has an iridescent lavender tendency to the scales) and white fluff was the first he found. But like a kid with stuffed animals, he tries to take turns offering them affection and not play favorites.
