Time to mix up the slash/yaoi with a little yuri/shoujo ai with some fan art from CLAMP's delightfully adorable & perverted series, "Miyuki-chan in Wonderland". A story where an unsuspecting schoolgirl named Miyuki is transported to a a world based off of Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland where EVERYTHING is female and lusting after her. It's all she can do to ward off the advances of everyone, including the flowers~!
This is a very old piece of mine, but I still like it. It's done in "chibi" or "super deformed" (SD) style. Drawn in pencil, inked with brush, colored in Berol Prismacolor pencils. A tiny bit of pastel pencil was used to create the 'love cloud'. To my surprise, this art was selected to grace the T-shirts of a major convention. I thought it looked particularly charming on the childen who bought them. How's that for devious?
Call me an "Equal Opportunity Exploiter."
Check out CG Shrines where lots of Cheshire-chan art and cosplay is featured, including this work!
LOL! There may just be a few floating around. The con sold out and it was funny to me to see it still floating around on kids, albiet very faded, FIVE years later!

At that time, it was one of the very first "yuri" concepts I'd ever seen and I also love Alice in Wonderland and yes I had to give it up to the women of CLAMP. I even liked the whole idea of a "manga clan", ya know? They started as dojin creators and the power of their work gave rise to influencing the entire medium of shoujo (eventually others too). THAT is sumthin' ya can't help but admire! (and daydream about!)

I know ,the first manga i ever read was X1999 way back when it started out in Animerica.....and knowing that was the tip of the iceburg for CLAMP very cool.
that had to be a graet big hug for you as an artist having your work made for a tshirt for a con....that would be awesome!

It would have been a better hug if they had told me but that's another story.
Conventions and fan artists are a touchy subject. Ask a fan artist who worked for a con. If you ever wonder why a con doesn't have better promtional art...there is a good reason why. It is best for those who get a thrill from the exposure because respect is short-comming. They look for newbies. And sometimes that means getting ripped off. It's tricky, if you are ready to break on the scene as a big-name fan artist then I think it could be awesome but I was young, shy, and inexperienced.
I was as flattered as I was confused and intimidated. Fortunately, I had good hook-ups and my friend told me what wuz up and made sure the con gave me a free badge and some goodies. That fanclub I belonged to was good peeps sometimes.
And omfg do not get me started on fan egos. That was another prob I ran into. Like imagine a time before deviant art, so cons were an awesome place to meet fellow anime artists. Inside I was this puppy wagging its tail (trying not to piddle ) while more "established" fans saw me as a threat and gave me the cold shoulder. Not all, but it did happen. It sucked. All ya can do is NOT be that kinda person/artist. Yeah.

wow that sounds horrible. yeah i've heard some nasty storyies about cons and volunteers and artists...sucky deal. yeah my friends are telling me to get a booth at the con here where i live....but i don't really do alot of "fanart" but they say i have the "tallent" too. i think those are two totally different things in my opinion. well we'll see what happens. it's neat to get to talk to people in the (sort of) know....thanks for sharing your knowledge with me.
