A High School Art project assigned us to draw a famous person in monchrome paint. I naturally chose David Bowie (my all time favorite entertainer) and I picked this photo because it offered rich and interesting shadows. This took an especially long time as I worked in small areas with only black and white paint (all that was permitted) to obtain the most accurate shadows possible. Although it was only because I was FORCED to take a drawing class in Senior year that I took one, I ended up taking all my projects home to work on. This was encouraged though few took their projects so seriously. If drawing felt like working a magic spell, then you'd look for opportunities to do it more often too. Also, I'm a huge perfectionist and if I was going to draw Mr. Bowie then I was going to do right by him - you betcha buttons! Speaking of which, I like how those buttons came out on him. Adding his name using the "Serious Moonlight" logo was my idea and a good touch since many students drew people and no one knew who the heck they were. *snicker* I was used to people not knowing who my idol was in 1995 when I drew this.
Yaaahhoooo! Great work. Not my favorite Bowie time period, but you did beautifully and any Bowie is good Bowie. (Cept Mustache Bowie, that one makes me scratch my head. lol)

OMG! Using just black and white paint must have been really difficult, all those different shades of grey you needed to mix You pulled it off really well though Idolhands. I love this and you have captured him soo well! the way you have done his hair is impressive.
Mustache Bowie. *lol* Yeah, when I was twelve I thought.. "whuzzah?" But now, it's all good. I don't care. He does look better in a beard than with only a mustache though.

Not only is this a great painting that really reflects Bowie of that period, but it also brought to mind the photos my late lover took of that tour. [link] Thought you may have based this on one of those (which would have been OK), but I see the angle is a tad different. Anyway, nice work!
*applauds* Thank you for that link. Yes, I did base this off a book with a collection of photos of him from that period. It was such a useful opportunity for obsession! *laughs* Imagine I had to study every nuance and shadow of a man that, in an imperfect universe, is my God.
