Borrowed Time - line art

Another piece of personal work from an epic, sci-fi tale that I've been creating since childhood.

Due to a personal knowledge of the writing/art of my creation, I've categorized this under science fiction. However, the illustration looks more fantasy or storybook -- perhaps even surreal. I'm slightly confused on what to do.

As with The Eye of God, there is strong symbolism involved although this would represent a real scene from the story. My fondness for the character has gotten slightly in the way of his true appearance, but that’s OK, it gives me something to work towards and this isn’t bad.

Art Details: colored pencil. The character is deathly pale and lanky, but is in fact wearing a form-fitted cat-suit that is white. He's not nude from the waist down, though I can easily see why one might think so.

Special thanks to:

It took me quite a while to realize he was only wearing the gloves and the waistcoat. xD
Its sounds interesting even though I haven't heard tell of this before =D

Great work as always! <3

Oh dear, I should clarify, that's a (white) cat suit type of outfit, something worthy of a gymnast, dancer or acrobat. And of course there are reasons for that including that it is in a future world setting. There can be strong sexual themes to the story, but not quite here.

This is my first time introducing these personal things to Deviant Art or the Internet at large, though key people in my real life have known of them, some well connected and/or knowledgeable in entertainment (so nobody get any stupid ideas). <- not directed at you, of course.

I thought they were durn cool, I tell ya wut.

I was trying to strike a style between anime and Marvel comics, at the time it wasn't much seen, plus to my mind it was a good way to introduce a lot of very far-out ideas; a middle reality as if were. *bobs head around in thought*

I admit to having nearly no formal training.

Oh right =D Heheheh. I'm glad you cleared that up for me.

I know it'll be a really great story... wait, better than 'great'. It'll be wow-tastic.

I know you probably know this but, if its your first time do really be careful of art theives, they're bad for fanart but notorious for stealing your own ideas. :/ I just... don't want anything really bad and catastrophic to happen to you, because your ideas are so fresh and un-cliche.

=) I'm looking forward to more concept art n stuff!

I know and I do want people to be on the look-out. Feel free to inform me of anything, pointers, etc. I'm always happy to get smarter.

I have quite a lot of eyes, but I can always use more. There are very experienced lawyers and cops in my family, plus my connections to comic/anime/fandom.

I'm the only one who knows how these characters truly work within their complex spiderweb. These ideas are born of thousands of others and through a lifetime of pain from a mind that's a bit strangely wired -- hard to copy that.

I want to do this though, I'd like it if my characters could get known like some other people's I've seen like "Pepper", yes? Please let me know the safest way to do that around here. So I don't mind playing fairly. If people want to credit me or use work, that's OK, stealing of any type is of course not. How do I play cool without getting theifed? Even some of the big names have it happen, even one of my very good friends had their fan-fic ripped off!!

Un-cliche sounds so much nicer than "weird". :)

I WANT people to be able to immediately be able to state things like, "Hey, you got that from IDOL HANDS." If people rip it off, then it should be obvious they are only doing someone else's thang.

Maybe I'll leave it at these tastes and wait until I have more formal work prepared?

I did share a tiny sliver with a good friend once and you know what? They were an amateur writer and they ripped me off instantly but they did it wrong. It didn't go anywhere anyway and neither did she. It made me realize though that I probably did have good ideas if they were worth ripping off so quickly.

-rolls eyes- Very delightful, I must say, and you don't need training because you have been gifted with extra hardcore talent in both photography and in drawing. -nods- <3

*nod* I will, I'll always give you constructive crit. if I feel there is room/need for it =D

Yeah I know what you mean - most of what your fiction here is about is all in your head at the moment, you'll never put all of it on the web or get all of it down, theres always going to be things that you keep totally to yourself without telling anyone else, so they'll never get the full picture of what you're doing, so at least it might be some comfort knowing you'll always have something left.

The safest way? Well to be honest ... choose carefully what you share, is my advice. I don't know how other people do it but I try not to share the things I love most - I only put things up on the internet if they're below that favoured standard. The internet is a trap and a wonder - two in one!
*nod* crediting, yeah, and trademark your artwork... writings a bit more harder to do that with I guess. its easy for someone to just copy-paste something you write in your journal or the artist's comments box. Sometimes its just a trivial thing - I'm fully aware a lot of people have probably already taken things from me. But they're such small things that I'm not that bothered. They'll probably find its no good to them anyway.
Giving credit for borrowed/taken work is the good way of showing that the work is appreciated yeah =) art thieves. part of the 'scum of the earth' series of collectables. hehehe.

=) what makes it weird, the fact that it deviates from the accepted 'norm'? Naww, weird is your style, I dont want anyone to take that from you because you get afraid that they won't like it. There's always gonna be people who love your work.

You're hardly an amateur yourself though - I know oneday I'll see your name printed on the cover of many copies of many stories. =) your writing style is very distinguishable and your art has a distinctive flair too.

yeah but t hen again people who are desperate for ideas will scam off anything. if i was the kind of person who stole ideas, i'd definately go for something like yours. they're fabulous.
true genius =)

now if you'll excuse me for a bit, my eye makes a strange noise when i rub it and the typing in the comment box is laggy and also, my computer is behaving strangely.
